Seefeld receives regional scholarship

Sanford, NC – The North Carolina Community College Faculty Association (NCCCFA) recently awarded Central Carolina Community College (CCCC) student Jessica Seefeld a $1,000 Central Region Scholarship.

Seefeld, of Sanford, is working toward Associate Degrees in both accounting and office systems technology. She has already received certificates from the college in telecommunications and motorcycle mechanics. Seefeld plans to use her training in office systems technology to pursue a career in court reporting.

“I am very excited and grateful for this scholarship,” said Seefeld. “This money will help me pay for the extra course load that comes with a double major.”

Each year, the NCCFA awards scholarships to students in each of three regions across the state—Western, Eastern and Central. The scholarships are aimed at recognizing students who have financial need, and who have shown a high degree of academic excellence.

Students must be nominated for the scholarship and then complete an application and personal statement. Dr. Anthony Harrington, history instructor and Huskins program coordinator nominated Seefeld. To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be enrolled full-time, have a minimum 3.0 grade point average, and have demonstrated prior academic success. A committee of nine NCCFA members selects the recipients.

Seefeld was one of five applicants from the central region, which comprises 18 community colleges in the central part of the state. She will be honored at the annual NCCCFA conference in Greensboro in October.
